Dear FuckYeahChubbyFashion,
The header of your tumblr states: This is a fashion blog dedicated purely to fabulous plus sized ladies (and men if they so wish)!!
I know you can’t be entirely unaware of the critical discussions going on right now. Y’all seem to be well-intentioned. And I really do want to support blogs that are explicitly about body positivity.
Here’s the issue: we’ve not had any visible response from you regarding y’all’s habits of posting images of people who talk about their fatness while… not being fat. If your intention is to serve as a resource for the fat community, you might want to get involved in the on-going discussions - and you might want to change that tagline.
I don’t believe anybody wants to tell thin women dealing with body issues that they don’t deserve a place to feel accepted - that’s never been what the upset is about. I’d argue that fuckyeahbodyacceptance is where those submissions should be redirected but that’s just me and maybe you’re actually trying to be as inclusive as possible.
That’s totally fine. But you’ve got to give us what’s advertised on the can, so to speak. If your tumblr is about images of people who accept their bodies in spite of negative messages no matter what their size, that’s totally awesome. But you have to tell us that’s what you’re doing. Right now a lot of people feel betrayed - because, honestly, it’s incredibly threatening and painful to a safer space turn into a landmine.
And, yeah, I think it ought to be addressed with some submitters that when they wear a size 6, CHUBBY FASHION is probs not the community they want to be posting in out of respect for people who are part of the fat community. But ultimately, you are the curators of all these images - you’re the ones allowing submissions that are actively hurting people who believed you when you said the tumblr was dedicated “purely” to the plus-sized demographic.
In essence, when you say that and then post images of thin women, you’re lying to us. And we’ve been lied to a lot.
I think what you want to do is pretty clear - you want to keep posting whatever gets submitted because body acceptance is important no matter what your size. It’s also a lot easier than moderating submissions and having to tell people, no, I’m sorry, this is a space for people who wear plus-sized clothing, not a space for people who wear a medium at Anthropologie. That’s not a lot of fun, I totally understand.
But it also can’t be any fun to see the constant “she’s not even fat” reblogs from people who are actively angered and hurt.
The solution really may be as simple as truth in advertising, fuckyeahchubbyfashion. Surely you can be honest with all of us.
Thanks,
Marianne

Slow clap. THIS is why I stopped following them some time ago. It was like being laughed at when I saw pictures of people whose clothes wouldn’t fit on one of my legs, posted as “plus size”.
